This took place from the 8th – 20th May with 21 year 9s and 10s participating. Our students stayed with their penfriends at the Gesamtschule Hollfeld and got to know the beautiful part of Bavaria known as Oberfranken. Besides attending school, they visited the towns of Bamberg, Bayreuth, Nürnberg and München and spent a day exploring the Fränkische Schweiz with its limestone caves and spectacular scenery.
We had brilliant weather so there were lots of trips after school to the nearby thermal pool and sampling of icecreams! In the first week we were invited by the local mayor to her Council Chambers within the townhall in Hollfeld where we were given an official welcome and then treated to a meal in the nearby Pizzeria. We all found the Germans’ generous hospitality amazing! Several students did not want to leave their partners but the Germans will be visiting us here at Chiltern Edge quite soon, in July.
Thanks to Serafima for her great photos – even one from the top of the Frauenkirche in München!
