GCSE French and German - Year 10

UN World Food Programme

Do your bit to help the UN World Food Programme and at the same time practise your French, German or Spanish vocabulary! Infact, it isn't just your foreign languages you can practise, but also Art, English, Geography, Chemistry and Maths.

Remember, at the same time as helping yourself, you are helping others too!

Module 3 GCSE - next steps

Year 10, you are starting Module 3 which requires you to produce two pieces of written coursework. Module 3 is worth 12½% of your final GCSE grade. Unlike Modules 1 and 2 you CAN NOT retake this module. Read the following advice to help you succeed.

1. Cover each bullet point in equal depth.
2. Refer to the past, present and future.
3. Give opinions and justify them.
4. Draft your work.
5. Spend time checking what you have written.
6. Follow the feedback given by your teacher.
7. Keep your reference material organised.

Your teachers will give you more information and guidance about the tasks you need to cover and the deadlines.

European Elections 2009

The European Elections take place between 4th-7th June. These elections take place every five years. Adults across Europe are entitled to vote for politicians to represent them at the European Parliament. These politicians are known as MEPs. There are about 785 MEPs who represent all the countries in the Eurpean Union. The European Parliament has two meeting places - Strasbourg, France and Brussels, Belgium. Take a look at the videos below, encouraging citizens of Europe to vote in these elections. The first one has French subtitles, the second one has German subtitles.

Mittwoch den 20. Mai

 

Heute war der beste Tag bisher. Die Sonne hat geschienen und wir haben einen Tagesausflug nach Bamberg gemacht. Dort haben wir in drei Gruppen eine Stadtrallye gemacht. Wir haben gut gearbeitet!  Die Stadt ist sehr hübsch und wir haben viele Photos genommen. Wir haben natürlich Eis gegessen und wir haben einen Einkaufsbummel gemacht.

 

We really enjoyed our day in Bamberg today. It was very hot but we still managed to ask questions and find our way around. Bamberg is really beautiful and we took lots of pictures of the old townhall in the middle of the river. The time is going by very quickly. Nearly time to pack our bags!

 

 

 

  

 

 

German Exchange 2009 - update 5

Heute waren wir in der Schule. Wir sind in den Englischunterricht gegangen. Wir haben mit den Schülern gesprochen. Später haben wir Rollenspiele in Hollfeld gemacht. Wir sind in die Geschäfte gegangen und wir haben Fragen gestellt. Das war gut!

 

We spent the day in school . After we had had our photos taken we discussed our trip to Nürnberg. We also were prepared for our speaking practice in the town. We then were let loose on the shopkeepers of Hollfeld where we practised our German by asking all sorts of questions. The chemist now probably thinks we are all ill as we asked whether he sold remedies for all sorts of ailments!

 

German Exchange 2009 - update 4

Montag den 18. Mai
Heute haben wir einen Tagesausflug nach Nürnberg gemacht. Zuerst sind wir zum Parteitagsgelände gefahren. Es war sehr interessant. Dann sind wir in die Ausstellung über Hitler und die Nazizeit gegangen. Wir haben viel gelernt. Danach haben wir eine
Stadtführung in der Stadtmitte gemacht. Wir haben sehr viel gesehen. Die Burg war wirklich schön und wir hatten eine tolle Aussicht über die Stadt. Zuletzt sind wir einkaufen gegangen. Das hat uns gut gefallen!

We all thought today was really interesting and thought provoking. We stood on the spot from where Hitler gave his speeches. The exhibition about the Nazi time was good. The films really made us think. Later we learnt about the Nürnberg trials and
visited the court house where they took place. Our guide, Diane, showed us the medieval Nürnberg and we learnt about Albrecht Dürer and at the end we all turned the golden ring at the Schöner Brunnen to bring us luck!

 

 

 

German Exchange - update 3

Hallo! Heute (Mittwoch den 13. Mai ) waren wir in der Schule und wir sind in dem fantastischen Hallenbad geschwommen. Das hat uns Spass gemacht. Wir waren auch in einer Englischstunde der sechsten Klasse. Nach der Schule hatten wir einen Sporttournier. Wir haben Basketball, Fussball und Hockey gespielt. Die Mannschaft D (Will, Oliver,Mattieu, Hannes, Julia und Rika) hat gewonnen. Am Abend gab es einen Empfang am Rathaus. Danach hat die Buergermeisterin uns zum Pizzaessen eingeladen. Die Pizzas waren lecker!

A good day - we really enjoyed swimming and playing with all the floats in the pool. Some of us helped the little ones in their English lesson and then we all took part in the sports tournament run by Frau Frey. In the evening we came back to Hollfeld for the mayor´s reception - we all dressed up (as you can see from the photo!) and then after the speeches we tucked into our pizzas!

 

 

 

German Exchange 2009 - update 2

 

Donnerstag den 14. Mai Heute haben wir einen Tagesausflug in die Fränkische Schweiz gemacht. Wir haben zuerst die Wagnerhöhe in Gößweinstein gesucht! Von dort gab es einen herrlichen Blick über die schöne Landschaft. Herr Waltenberger hat uns Rittersport Schokolade gegeben! Dann haben wir die Basilika besucht. Sie war sehr imponierend. Später sind wir in die Teufelshöhle gegangen. Wir haben viele Stalakmiten und Stalagtiten gesehen. Wir sind dann ein bisschen gewandert und dann haben wir Eis gegessen. Nach einem Einkaufsbummel in Pottenstein sind wir zurückgefahren. Unterwegs haben wir das Schloss von der Familie Stauffenberg gesehen. Had a great day out today. Some of us won chocolate for our excellent orienteering skills. The limestone cave was pretty amazing and the ´hike´ was fortunately not too demanding. Working our way through the wide range of icecream flavours! We are getting to know our partners and understanding more German!

 

 

 

 

 

Freitag den 15. Mai

Heute haben wir einen Ausflug nach Bayreuth gemacht. Wir haben das Festspielhaus von Richard Wagner gesehen. Es war sehr groß!  Dann haben wir die Villa Wahnfried besichtigt. Wagner hat dort gewohnt. Wir sind auch in das alte Opernhaus gegangen. Es war sehr schön! Später sind wir in die Stadtmitte gegangen, wo wir einen Einkaufsbummel gemacht haben.  


We liked Bayreuth - thought the little opera house was lovely. We enjoyed the free time we were given - all planning to return for more retail therapy in the Rotmainzentrum!
